Running efficiently
Inefficient running form plays a big part in fatigue, slower times, risk of injury and increased energy consumption. We can help with all of these factors by following some of these tips:
Running stride
Longer strides result in you spending more time in contact with the ground, which will increase the amount of energy that your muscles use. A shortened stride will recycle more of the energy absorbed by the tendons upon ground contact and use up less of the muscles energy.
Brief contact with the ground
As a runner, the shorter amount of time you spend in contact with the ground the less energy you are using. Therfore giving you a more efficient running style.
Arm action
Remember, your arms should move with the momentum of the body. The more you try to use your arms, you will increase energy consumption. Let your legs and core muscles do the work and let your arms enjoy the ride!
Running Upright
Running at an upright angle you will engage your core muscles more, which will help in pulling your hips into a correct running position. You want to aim to keep your shoulders back and opening your chest.
